CMAJ Editorial by Journalist R COLLIER "ACCESSIBILITY TO MEDICAL OFFICES A SIGNIFICANT PROBLEM."

Mr Collier suggests that MDs buy special lifts to help morbidly obese & physically disabled pts get on to exam tables. Also wheel-chair weighing machines.

COMMENT: As with many armchair experts Mr Collier gives this Utopian advice when in Ontario the Liberal Govt is cutting MDs' fees.As well there is an absurd 13% TAX on medical equipment. Mr Collier seems to be unaware of the problem of end-of-lease moving or forced  eviction as was the case when the University of Toronto evicted all the Doctors from the the 73y Medical Arts Building on the NWcorner of Bloor West and St. George.  Now named the Jackman Humanities building. Doctors were also evicted from the 99 Avenue road building to make room for a Condominium development. An answer to Mr Collier would be Government owned Medical offices which could be leased to MDs. Similar to REGUS time-shares.
