CPSO: UNSIGNED ARTICLE IN DIALOGUE WANTS TO SET RULES ABOUT GPS BEING RESPONSIBLE FOR PATIENTS 24/7/365, COPYING UK.
COMMENT: Difference between UK & Ont. In UK patient has to register with one GP at a time. When patient changes GP the medium-sized envelope is sent to the next GP. (Notes are short.) In Ont. people are allowed to visit as many GPs as they want. All MDs have to keep records for 10y
In UK GPs are paid a capitation fee for which they are responsible 24/7/365. Time off is arranged with Locum agency which is paid by the GP.. Reason why many GPs left UK. Liberal Ont Govt wants to reduce ER visits by introducing UK-style system with house-calls on demand. CHANGE FOUNDATION which advises Ont Govt visita UK yearly.

CPSO COUNCIL MEETING, Pres. Paed Cadio. Joel A KIRSH MD (Tor, 1992) FRCP(Can).@ 80 College st,Toronto.
SECRET Morning session:: only 31 Council members plus the Registrar Dr R. Gerace (appointed 2002) and some Staff. No other CPSO members allowed in the room.(Comment: Why the secrecy? Possuibly to decide what to do if Ont MDs go on strike - as is planned in UK.
Afternoon session from 1pm to 3pm, Presentation by Cancer Care Ontario on attempt to provide same Cancer diagnosis and treatment in Community Hosps as in University Cancer centres.
To combat illegal use of DURAGESIC MATRIX (fentanyl patches). Distributed by JANSSEN ,made by ALZA,Ca: both owned by JOHNSON & JOHNSON., CPSO new rules mean that GP must confirm in writing SINGLE pharmacy supplier. Must note number of patches Rx. Pharmacist will issue new patches only when used patches returned to pharmacy. Problem with forged patches.
Council Cocktail party and Dinner starting at 5 pm at Le Select Bistro, 432 Wellington st. West..Toilet in basement, Menu includes Ris de Veau $28 (hard to find sweetbreads in Toronto.).
COMMENT: Why not at Upper-class clubs; eg Albany, National, Rosedale Golf, Royal Can.Yacht (City club house), University, York? Possible reason is that these clubs have Dress rules: at least a jacket for men,prefrably with a tie. Shirt alone is allowed at CPSO Council meetings.Also some Council members may be Left-wing socialists and regard these clubs as elitist (which they are).
Except for Cosmetic Medicine/Surgery and Private $3,500éyr GP offices (called Wellness Centres to avoid the Canada Health Act) Toronto medicine has fallen to, at best, middle-middle class. The Toronto Academy of Medicine including the Drake Museum,. library and Osler Hall became bankrupt through lack of support. It is now the Toronto Baha`i Centre..Legal loophole Wellness Centres (usually $3,500/yr with eg dietitian advice)),include Cleveland Clinic Canada (30,000 sq ft) 181 Bay st.- opens at 7;30 am, ;MedCan at 150 York St (opens 9 am) and Canada-wide MediSys.333 Bay St & 3300 Bloor St West.(opens 8 am)
