ONE OFFICE: TWO PRESIDENTS

An interesting bit of trivia which discloses the close connection between the OMA & CPSO (College Phys.& Surgeons of Ontario) are the following facts:

2009/2010 CPSO President was North-West Toronto GP Oscar Jack MANDEL MD(Tor.72) aet 65y +/-
1993 Finch Avenue West,
Downsview,Ont. M3N 2X3
416 745 4555
according to web has 15 employees.

2009/2010 OMA President was North-West Toronto GP Suzanne Robin STRASBERG MD(Tor.92) aet 45y +/-
1993 Finch Avenue West
Downsview,Ont. M3N 2X3
416 745 4555

Not to be confused with,(also in the same practice) GP Jessica Eizabeth Strasberg MD (McMaster 05)  aet 31y +/-

This may be the background behind the new OMA by-law that blocks retired doctors from Elected OMA posts unless they pay $1400 a year for CPSO registration. With an ageing medical pipulation the CPSO may be worried about a loss of income. The UK GMC has a more modest fee for retired doctors of abour $350 a year. In USA most States charge about $300 a year licence fee..

OMA new rule attacks retired members.

OMA new rule attacks retired members.

The OMA Board has decreed that doctors who do not renew their CPSO licence are not eligible for any elected position.

There was no explanation for this decision. The Proposer,Seconder and voting is not published.

It is known that many OMA Committee members are also on well-paid CPSO committees.

DISTRICT 11 AGM

District 11 has 10,250 doctors in Metro Toronto (excluding Mississauga). SEVENTY attended the AGM and superb FREE Dinner at the Vaughan Estate mansion of Sunnybrook Hospital;(value $75). All nominations from the Committee were accepted without any competition. The District has $500,000on deposit with the OMA. No financial statements are published.

The sad end of the official OMA FORUM

The Ontario Medical Association had an active FORUM. Sadly it became mixed up with Middle-East politics and was removed from the web. The old OMA Forum was a means of doctors in Ontario communicating easily at no charge. The CMA has a FORUM which is less than vigorous. This blog is an attempt to fill the communication void.
