Complementing the Canadian Health Care System

Canadian Maple Leaf The MyCare Insurance Program complements the Canadian Health Care System by delivering services in two stages: (1) an eConsult delivered by a Mayo Clinic physician to either confirm a diagnosis delivered in Canada or render a diagnosis when one has not been achieved, and (2) treatment at a Mayo Clinic facility, if deemed appropriate.
In the event that you or your family receive a diagnosis of a serious illness or must undergo major surgery, or if your doctors are unable to arrive at a diagnosis for your condition within 60 days, you will contact OneWorld Assist Inc. OneWorld Assist, operating as a case manager for MyCare, will initiate an eConsult with Mayo Clinic, whereby:
  1. You will be instructed to gather the relevant medical information from your medical provider(s) in Canada.
  2. MyCare’s medical director will forward these documents to Mayo Clinic and request a medical opinion from the appropriate Mayo Clinic physician(s).
  3. You will be offered a retest of pathology, if needed.
  4. An analysis report, including a review of your current treatment protocol or recommended surgical procedure, will be forwarded to you for review, and if you so designate, to your Canadian doctor as well.
  5. If the analysis contains additional diagnostic testing and treatment recommendation, you’ll receive testing at the nearest approved diagnostic facility and the recommended treatment will commence, either in Canada or at the appropriate Mayo Clinic facility.

  1. "RNAO is delighted with the announcement made by Premier Kathleen Wynne. It demonstrates the government's commitment to increasing timely access to quality care for the public, and recognizes the central role Ontario's nurses play in our health system. Maximizing and expanding the scope of practice of RNs and RPNs is in keeping with RNAO's ‘Primary Solutions to Primary Care’ report released last June."
