Clostridium difficile (C. difficile or C. diff) and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureas (MRSA) are the leading causes of nosocomial infection.1 C. diff is an opportune pathogen, affecting primarily the elderly and the immunocompromised. Currently more than 500,000 cases of C. difficile infection (CDI) are diagnosed each year in the U.S.2 In the U.S between 1999 and 2004, mortality from CDI increased from 5.7 deaths per million people to 23.7 per million.3
