MEDICAL ENTREPRENEUR: Dr. J G B SIEGERT 1796-1870 who formulated ANGOSTURA BITTERS by appointment to H.M. Queen Elizabeth II

Dr SIEGERT was born in Silesia. Joined army of Simon Bolivar in 1820 as Surgeon-General. Formulated Gentian root  mixture in 1824 as a cure for stomach ailments, Lived in ANGOSTURA now Ciudad Bolivar. By 1850 had exported mixture to North America & UK. In 1862 one of his three sons, Don Carlos exhibited in London Exhibition. Became basis of Pink Gin. In 1870 on death of Dr Siegert the family moved to Port of Spain, Trinidad.in 1873 Angostura Aromatic Bitters won Medal of Excellence in Vienna.
