Ian Witterick MD, MSc is Professor and Chair, Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Toronto and Chief of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto. He completed medical school at the University of Western Ontario followed by residency in Toronto and additional fellowships in head & neck oncology and rhinology. He completed a Master’s degree in Clinical Epidemiology from the University of Toronto. He joined the staff of Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto in 1993 and is a member of the Department of Surgical Oncology at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. He is Chair of the Education Committee for the Faculty of Medicine at U of T and will finish his last year as Chair of the Examination Board in Otolaryngology-HNS for the RCPSC in 2012. He clinical interests include head and neck oncology, rhinology and skull base surgery. He has expertise in education training and evaluation

Hakaru Hashimoto was born to a family of medical practitioners. In 1907 he was one of the first graduates of the new medical school at Kyushu University in Fukuoka, and from 1908 to 1912 worked in the surgical department with professor Hayari Miyake (1867–). After obtaining his M.D., Hashimoto spent three years in Berlin, Göttingen, and London, returning to Japan after the outbreak of World War I. He joined the family practice and became a prosperous surgeon.(whonamedit)
