Cost of Defensive medicine: CPSO & Personal injury lawyers
Many investigations ordered to avoid CPSO complaints by patients and/or relatives. Anyone anywhere in the World can complain to CPSO about a member. The member has to respond. Personal injury lawyers often take no retainers bur charge 30 per cent of any award. Small claims court can award damages to $25,000 No lawyer needed. CPSO expensive; about $2,000 a year. Michigan Medical licencing dept charges about $290 yearly. MD can pay for 3 years in advance.
